My Question and the President’s Silence

Today, I asked the following question to the Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa during a Twitter interaction.

Mahinda Rajapaksa @PresRajapaksa:
This is the first time we are doing this. There may have been technical lapsesLalith Weeratunga

Nirmanusan B @Nirmanusan:
Can we also say 146,679 civilians were victims of ‘technical lapses’ since that was world’s first humanitarian operation?

Yesterday, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s official website stated: “President Mahinda Rajapaksa will answer questions on a Twitter Q&A from New York following his address at the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)”

However, as was in the past, once again His Excellency did not provide answers to many questions. Sri Lanka has a bitter history of moving ahead leaving behind unanswered questions, and this trend could further transform the already negative peace into greater volatility.

People in Sri Lanka, particularly the Tamils, have been waiting for decades with their justice-related questions and thus far no Sri Lankan Presidents have provided appropriate answers.

There will be a prosperous future for none of the nations in the island of Sri Lanka if there are no answers provided to the unaccounted 146,679 Tamil war victims and the many other Tamil victims of the protracted mass atrocities.
